Dear friends of the Camping & Education Foundation,

As quickly as the waters of Rainy Lake rose and fell, summer fades and we are all in full-on fall mode. The Ogichi and Kooch-i-ching campuses have been put to bed for the winter, the ballfields have been mowed one last time, and all of the boats and gear are stowed away.

We always say that the early recruiting season is a barometer for the previous summer. If that is the case, despite the disruptions and lingering effects of COVID, the summer of 2022 was as impactful as ever. Enrollment is well ahead of last year for both Kooch-i-ching and Ogichi, and some sessions are a few spots shy of a waiting list. A video of some fun photos from the 2022 season can be found here.

Even with early momentum, Johanna and JR have already hit the recruiting trail. From Chicago to Kansas City to San Francisco and many points in between, our road warriors will be meeting with new families and old faces. Word of mouth is an important component of our recruiting efforts, so if you know of a family or two that could be interested, please reach out to either Johanna or JR at johanna@ogichi.org or jrverkamp@koochiching.org.

In other news…

Please welcome Kyle Siebert, the newest member of our Urban Wilderness team. Kyle recently moved to Cincinnati and jumped in headfirst on a recent field trip with North Avondale Montessori. Kyle is taking over the field trip portion of our Urban Wilderness program and promises to use his Parks/Rec and Math degrees to take our programming to another level.

Bart and Co. have been very busy this summer, as you can see by the pictures below. A new pump house, located outside the Foundation House, means no more 24/7 pump watch…ever again! Sorry Mick, although you did a great job running the Pump Watch Crew, we hope your talents will be put to use elsewhere!

A second addition to our Foundation property is a new family cabin which Jana and Kevin Henderson will affectionately call home in the summer for the foreseeable future. Jana promises to bring her creative touches and Kevin promises to keep cutting the grass!
